Don’t be Pissed at Today’s Lesson!

Today you’ll learn 5 slang phrases natives use when they’re angry.

Don’t forget to check out the blog this week! I explain how natives use the word ‘cheesy’, and how the dictionary does a terrible job of defining it.

Today is my birthday! I’ll tell you how I celebrated when we get to the Pop Culture R&R ;)

Slang Phrases for Anger

Pissed (off)- also, commonly, f$%$ing pissed off; this is not a polite thing to say, but it is the most common

Americans use this to mean angry.

However, Brits say this to someone to mean ‘leave’, or ‘f*&% off

They also use ‘pissed’ instead of ‘drunk.’

PO’ed- polite way of saying ‘pissed off’

Miffed- polite

Ticked off- also nicer way of saying ‘pissed’

Peeved- can mean very annoyed as well as angry, often follows ‘slightly

I’m generally not an angry person.  I used to be though!

When I was a teenager, I was angry with the world, and even into my 20’s. I had a difficult relationship with my dad, and then he passed when I was 21, so that took me a while to process.

Now, though, I’m rarely pissed off at anything!

Pop Culture R&R

So, today is my birthday! You know what I did? I woke up early, made myself breakfast, and ate it in bed while watching Cape Fear, made in 1991.

This is such an incredible film. The pedigree could not be finer- directed by Martin Scorsese, starring Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, Nick Nolte (before he went loony tunes), and a young Juliette Lewis.

It’s a remake of a 1962 movie. De Niro plays Max Cady, a psychotic ex-con who has it in for Nolte and his family, as Nolte was his lawyer and didn’t represent him well, sending him to prison for 14 years.

This is Scorsese in his prime, I think. Truly cinematic. Movies like this aren’t made anymore, as much of what made them so incredible, so cinematic, became tropes. It’s thrilling and impeccable, and the performances are insane.
